On Thursday 11 July, Bologna Airport hosted an important national conference entitled “The prospects of air cargo in Bologna between innovation and development”.
The theme of digitalisation and technological innovation in the logistics chain is of great importance for us, also in light of the fact that Bologna is in fact the third Airport in Italy for volumes of cargo transported, with approximately 51 thousand tonnes of goods in 2023 (equal to 5% of the market), has seen strong growth in goods transported by couriers and “general cargo” in recent years, and major works of makeover on the cargo terminal were delivered in March 2024.
Participation was broad and the speeches attracted the greatest interest from the audience. The conference was attended by the main protagonists of the cargo world in Italy, the trade associations, the airports of Rome, Milan and Venice, the General Director of Enac, Alessio Quaranta, and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Galeazzo Bignami who spoke closing.
The common request of the entire sector is that at a political level a strategic direction and overall planning be given for the main cargo airports, to allow the country to increase its efficiency and competitiveness as a system, compared to other European airports, overcoming the gap existing.
